Activity 1: Design Your Own Robot

We’re excited to kick off the first activity of our 2026 Kid’s Summer Book Club! This year, join us as we read The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. New art activities and discussion questions will be posted throughout the summer, so be sure to have a parent or guardian follow us on social media to stay updated each time a new activity is announced. You can pick up a copy of The Wild Robot at the Museum front desk while supplies last.

Art Activity 1: Design Your Own Robot!

Before you begin, think about what special features or skills your robot will have:

• Can you see these things?

• What makes your robot special?

• Does your robot have a name?

Write your answers at the bottom, or make a list of what characteristics your robot has. Does it share any similarities with Roz in The Wild Robot? In the book, we see that Roz is resourceful, built to complete a variety of tasks. After she’s stranded on an island without humans, Roz then becomes creative and determined to ensure her survival.

After thinking about its personality and features, it’s now time to draw or paint your robot! Be sure to use a big portion of your paper, using different colors and art materials.
