Craig Lucas
Craig Lucas (American 1941–2011) was a painter and educator whose career was closely connected to the Cleveland, Ohio art community. He earned both his BFA and MA from Kent State University and taught at the university’s School of Art from 1969 until his retirement in 2004. Lucas was known for richly layered abstract and mixed-media paintings that combined observational imagery with expressive surfaces and natural forms. A founding member of SPACES in Cleveland, he exhibited widely throughout the region and nationally, including multiple appearances in the Cleveland Museum of Art’s May Show, where he received the Painting Award in 1990.
