William Crovello

William Crovello (American 1929-2021) is best known for his large-scale public sculpture. A New York City native, he studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design before serving in the U.S. Air Force. Extended stays in Japan deeply influenced his practice through the study of calligraphy. By the late 1960s, he shifted to sculpture, creating fluid stone and metal forms inspired by calligraphic gesture.
