Thomas Hart Benton (American 1889–1975) was a leading American Regionalist painter known for dynamic scenes of rural life and working-class communities. He studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and later at the Académie Julian in Paris. Rejecting modernist abstraction, he focused on storytelling rooted in the American heartland, helping define Regionalism alongside Grant Wood and John Steuart Curry.
