Mamie Carpenter
Mamie Carpenter (American 1925-2003) was an abstract painter and a longtime art teacher at Odessa High School (1957–1981), where she influenced generations of students in West Texas. Active during the 1960s and 1970s, she developed a practice rooted in abstraction at a time when women artists often faced marginalization within the male-dominated art world. Her work reflects both local artistic traditions and broader national movements in postwar abstraction, positioning her as an important regional voice in Texas art history.
