Herbert Bayer

Herbert Bayer (Austrian/American 1900–1985) was a Bauhaus artist, designer, and educator known for integrating art, typography, and photography. A student of Vasily Kandinsky, he later taught at the Bauhaus and developed the influential Universal typeface. After emigrating to the United States in 1938, he worked as a designer and helped shape modern exhibition design, collaborating with Edward Steichen at the Museum of Modern Art.
