Exhibition Opening: 1968: A Folsom Redemption

COMING SOON to the Ellen Noël Art Museum, 1968: A Folsom Redemption opens December 6th, 2025, as part of our Grand Opening!

This exhibition features stunning photographs capturing Johnny Cash’s iconic performances at Folsom State Prison, commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of this landmark event. In January 1968, Cash performed a live concert for an audience of incarcerated men, creating a bold, transformative moment in his career and in American music history.

Freelance journalists Dan Poush and Gene Beley, granted rare behind-the-scenes access, documented both the electrifying onstage energy and intimate personal moments, revealing the deep connection Cash forged with his audience. The exhibition includes over thirty rare photographs, showcasing backstage encounters with Cash’s family, friends, and fellow performers including Merle Haggard.

On view from December 6th, 2025, through March 15th, 2026, this traveling exhibition is on loan from Exhibits USA, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Mid-America Arts Alliance. Museum hours are Tuesday–Saturday, 10 AM–5 PM; Thursday with extended hours until 8 PM; Sunday, 12–5 PM; closed on Monday. Admission is always free—step into the world of the Man in Black and experience this unforgettable moment in music history!
