Max Schumann
Max Schumann (American 1964) is known for his “cheap art” practice, in which he paints expressive, rapidly executed scenes on ordinary cardboard panels. Drawing imagery from advertisements, newspapers, television, and film, he reworks familiar mass-media sources into new visual narratives. Through repetition, text overlays, and appropriation, Schumann explores how meaning shifts within contemporary visual culture, memory, and political imagery.
