Clara Skinner
Clara Skinner (American 1902–1976) was a printmaker known for her wood engravings and woodcuts, particularly those produced during the Great Depression through federal art programs. Born in Chicago, she studied at the Art Students League in New York, where she developed her skills in graphic arts and printmaking. Skinner worked with the Works Progress Administration (WPA), contributing to the Federal Art Project with prints depicting urban and theatrical subjects rendered in bold contrasts and intricate line work. Her notable work Theatre No. 1(1933–34) reflects her interest in performance themes and modernist composition. She later continued her practice in Camden, Maine.
