René Alvarado
René Alvarado (Mexican/American 1972) is a painter whose work reflects his upbringing between Coahuila, Wyoming, and Texas. He studied at the San Antonio Art Institute and San Antonio College and was named the 2009 Two-Dimensional Texas Artist of the Year by the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Texas Legislature. His paintings, often described as figurative surrealism, use symbolic and dreamlike imagery to explore themes of life, memory, and identity.
