Laurence Barker

Laurence Barker (American 1930) is an artist and printmaker born in Houston, Texas. He led the printmaking department at Cranbrook Academy of Art from 1960 to 1970, where he established the first university-based papermaking program in the United States. His work explores the expressive possibilities of handmade paper, and he later established a studio in Barcelona, maintaining an international career in art and teaching. In addition to his own art, Barker has produced paper for other well-known artists—including Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, and Mark Tobey.
