Sanctuary or (various places of solace)

by Benjamin Muñoz

Sanctuary or (various places of solace) by Texas artist, Ben Muñoz, presents a new body of work exploring the emotional and physical spaces that offer refuge in times of uncertainty. Through layered imagery and personal symbolism, Muñoz reflects on the people, memories, and environments that shape his sense of safety and belonging, while also confronting how those sanctuaries can be disrupted.

Muñoz’s practice spans painting, installation, and monumental printmaking. He grew up in Corpus Christi, where traditions such as Day of the Dead celebrations, lowrider shows, and food culture informed his visual language. The middle child of artist brothers, he developed his voice through reflections on heritage and lived experience. Muñoz attended Del Mar College before relocating to Dallas in 2018, where he continues to live and work.

Sanctuary or (various places of solace) is on view June 5 - August 30, 2026. Admission to the Ellen Noël Art Museum is always free. Located in the Media Gallery.
