Porfirio Salinas

Porfirio Salinas (American 1910–1973) was a Texas landscape painter known for impressionist depictions of Central Texas, especially fields of bluebonnets, the state flower. Born in Bastrop, Texas, to Mexican immigrant parents, his work reflects the cultural and geographic ties between Texas and Mexico. Salinas trained informally with José Arpa and Robert William Wood, accompanying them on plein-air painting excursions throughout the Texas Hill Country. His work was widely admired in Texas, including by President Lyndon B. Johnson, who collected and displayed several of his paintings.
