Al Newbill
Al Newbill (American, 1921–2011) was an Abstract Expressionist painter known for atmospheric compositions that balance gestural abstraction with subtle references to landscape and figuration. After serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he studied at the Brooklyn Museum, the Hans Hofmann School of Fine Art, and the New School for Social Research in the late 1940s. Throughout his career, Newbill combined luminous color and expressive brushwork to create meditative paintings that explore space, rhythm, and form.
