Karl Haendel

Karl Haendel (American 1976) is known for large-scale photorealist drawings that appropriate and reinterpret found imagery through installation, film, and public art. Born in New York, he earned a BFA from Brown University and an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and also attended the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Haendel’s work examines how images shape cultural values, political beliefs, and personal identity through processes of repetition, recontextualization, and formal transformation.
