Johnny Friedlaender
Johnny Friedlaender (German/French 1912–1992) was a painter and master printmaker celebrated for advancing modern color etching in the postwar period. Born in Pless, Germany (now Pszczyna, Poland), he studied in Breslau before fleeing Nazi persecution and settling in Paris in 1937. Friedlaender became internationally known for his lyrical abstract compositions and innovative intaglio techniques, teaching generations of printmakers while exhibiting widely throughout Europe and the United States.
