Heinie Hartwig
Heinie Hartwig (American 1937) is a self-taught painter best known for his romanticized landscapes and scenes of the American West. Raised in California’s Santa Clara Valley, Hartwig served with the U.S. Army in Europe before returning to California. He began painting seriously in 1970 and became a full-time artist the following year. Inspired by European Old Masters, Hartwig developed a detailed, atmospheric style emphasizing dramatic light, expansive landscapes, and idealized views of the West. In addition to Western subjects, his work includes landscapes and still lifes.
