Robert Colescott
Robert Colescott (American 1925–2009) was known for his bold, satirical reinterpretations of Western art history. Using vibrant color and expressive figuration, he challenged stereotypes and addressed issues of race, identity, and power. Colescott represented the United States at the 1997 Venice Biennale, becoming the first African American artist to do so.
