Doug Dawson Oil/Pastel Landscape Workshop

 


May 14, 15, 16, 2012 from 9:00-4:00
Cost: $425.00*

Day One:  Begins with a 1 ½ hour landscape demonstration from a photo reference. Topics illustrated will include using black and white thumbnail sketches, creating color harmony, separating landscape into planes, and the 7 principles used to create the illusion of depth in painting. Will also discuss color harmony and how to solve color problems while painting. Students will then work on their own paintings using the principles illustrated. This will be followed by a critique.

Day Two: Class will begin w/ a 1 hour demo on how to use color thumbnail sketches to solve problems of composition and color.  Discuss different ways to begin a painting. Students will work on color thumbnail sketches. In the afternoon, the best sketch will used as a starting point for a painting. Day will end with a critique.

Day Three:  Class will begin w/ a 1 ½ hour demonstration of the use of under-painting to control greens in a landscape.  Will also discuss two different lighting conditions in landscape: sunny and overcast. Students will spend rest of morning and afternoon working on their own paintings. The day will end with a critique of the work and a summary of the various principles illustrated in the workshop.
